DiamondGlow vs Hydrafacial: What is the Difference?

Many patients who are interested in facials or have had a facial have heard of or seen marketed the Hydrafacial. In 2019, Allergan added a dermabrasion device called DiamondGlow device to their portfolio.

Both the DiamondGlow and Hydrafacial are categorized as similar treatments but what are the differences and is one better than the other?

DiamondGlow:
What is it?

The DiamondGlow is a facial dermabrasion treatment that uses a combination of physical exfoliation and extraction to leave your skin glowing and smooth.

What does it do and how does it work?

The DiamondGlow uses closed vacuum technology with a hand piece with either diamond tips of various grits or exfoliating brush heads. This treatment is completely customizable, using medical grade SkinMedica serums to match each skin type and concern. The end result is skin that is deeply cleansed, exfoliated, extracted as needed, and hydrated.

Who should have DiamondGlow Facials?
The DiamondGlow Facial is great for many different skin concerns such as aging, hyperpigmentation, acne, dull skin, and more. The best part? Instant results. No downtime, thus making it a great option for just about anyone.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes to an hour and you’ll walk out feeling refreshed and glowing. This is our patients favorite and most requested facial.

The DiamondGlow is more of a treatment with the end goal being corrective.

Hydrafacial:
The HydraFacial  is a hydradermabrasion treatment that uses chemical exfoliation with glycolic or salicylic acid using a hand piece with a plastic tip attachment.

What does it do and how does it work?
The Hydrafacial can also be customized with different “boosters” for varying concerns and skin types. Some patients may have to be careful with the chemical exfoliant process as their skin may be reactive to some of the ingredients in the boosters. The HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts as needed, and hydrates the skin.

Who should have Hydrafacials?
Concerns that can be addressed vary but can include fine lines and wrinkles, texture, pigmentation and dryness. It can also be used for acneic skin types.

HydraFacials can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour with no real downtime and leave you feeling clean and hydrated.

The HydraFacial may seem to be more of a relaxing facial and continuous treatment with the end goal being cosmetic.
