Who, What, When, Where and How of Hyperpigmentation and Sun Damage
Looking for more information on hyperpigmentation and sun damage? Here is a quick rundown!
What are the dark spots or “age spots” on the face/body?
The dark spots are called hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is when an area of the skin produces excess melanin, thus creating the darker toned areas.
What causes hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation occurs for a variety of reasons such as sun exposure, pregnancy (melasma), or from post-inflammation (ie: acne scarring). Due to the complexity of this issue, it is important to see a medical provider about your skin and to not treat the dark spots with over-the-counter products or remedies.
How do you get rid of the dark spots?
There are a few approaches to treating and lightening the dark spots or sun damage. First, we recommend coming in for a complimentary consultation to allow one of our providers and medical aestheticians to complete a full assessment. The provider will then recommend a treatment plan that may include topical products, chemical peels, and laser treatments. Your treatment regimen is decided by the cause of your hyperpigmentation, your skin type, and your skin goals.
Who performs the laser treatment and chemical peel?
All our aestheticians at Georgous Aesthetic Bar are experienced medical aestheticians and certified laser technicians. They will perform your chemical peels or laser treatments and will follow-up with you throughout the duration of your treatments. This helps with consistency and overall improved outcomes.
When should you start treatments?
Fall and winter are the perfect times for laser treatments since there is generally much less direct sun exposure to the skin during that time!
