PRP: What is it and Why You Should Incorporate it Into Your Treatment

By now, most of us have seen the “Vampire Facial” and “Vampire Facelift” from the Kardashians, but what exactly is PRP, and why should it be used in treatments?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) concentrates PRP protein derived from whole blood centrifuged to remove red blood cells. PRP has been used for many years, especially in regenerative medicine, and has become increasingly popular in the aesthetics industry.

What is the benefit of PRP?

PRP is great for many reasons, but one of the most important ones is safety.  Since it is a patient’s own blood, PRP can be used in areas that cosmetic fillers may not treat, such as under the eyes in the tear troughs.  Here are some other great reasons why we love PRP:

  • Stimulates collagen

  • Reduces the appearance of large pores

  • Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduces acne scars

  • Evens skin texture and tone

  • Minimal downtime when combined with microneedling

What is a PRP Facial?

The PRP Facial is a combined treatment of microneedling with PRP and can treat the face and neck.  There is minimal downtime with this procedure, and PRP is an excellent procedure any time of the year.  For texture and toning, it is most often that a patient will need 3-5 treatments.

What is a PRP Facelift?

The PRP Facelift is a combined treatment of dermal fillers and PRP injections in a single treatment. There is little to no downtime with this treatment.
